The 14th Annual Harold Hunter Bridgerun is a grassroots run/skate/roll through Manhattan's Lower East Side that pays homage to Harold while raising funds for HHF programming.
This year's event will be held on NOVEMBER 10, once again in partnership with the NYC Bridgerunners. HH Bridgerun XIV will kick-off at Tompkins Square Park at 6:00pm on Wednesday, November 10th, and we'll hit the streets as a group for approximately 5 miles. The event will conclude at the South Street Seaport for a private after-party at Cobble Fish on Pier 16. All registered runners will receive a limited edition HH Bridgerun XIV t-shirt designed by HHF program participants. On Saturday, October 23rd, HHF Coach/Mentor Eliza Gonzalez and friends hosted a skate jam and winter coat drive at the Maloof Skatepark in Queens. It was a positive day for the community filled with cash-for-tricks contests, vendor pop-ups, free food and beverages, and live music performances. As Eliza Gonzalez puts it, "Hosting this event at Maloof Skatepark, we wanted to end our last event of the season with a bang. With our coat drive being a huge success and the DJ's and live performances providing dope sounds amidst our skate jams. We truly saw everything we worked for come full circle. From the vendors who always display their amazing talents, to the sponsors who support us. To be able to give back to the community right before the colder weather hit and to provide a safe yet fun space for all to enjoy was one for the books. It's truly always a pleasure to have HHF support our vision." Video courtesy of Michael Furnari and Parlour Productions.
Huge thanks to CBS New York for running a story on the evening news about the HHF Brownsville Skate Project Summer & Fall Clinics at Betsy Head Skatepark in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
The free skateboarding clinics are instructed by HHF Coaches Bilal Ndongo, Andy Millien, and Shani Bouldin. The clinics run every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from October 6th - December 3rd and are open to skateboarders of all abilities 5-17 years of age. Special thanks to L+M Development Partners for their help in making these skate clinics a reality for the local community. Click here to learn more, and watch the CBS New York story now: On October 15th at Tompkins Square Park the HHF x 21 Mercer Creative Careers Pilot Program wrapped with the premiere of "Hunter" -- a skate movie conceived, filmed, edited, and produced by program participants. Spearheaded by Jeggi Elinzano with support from HHF coaches and staff, the pilot program focused on career readiness, community building, development of professional and life skills, and more. In addition to producing a video, NYC skaters who participated in the program also had the chance to design their own board graphic with guidance from professionals within the New York design community. On Saturday, September 25th, HHF hosted an end of summer celebration for HHF Summer Skate Clinic participants at Betsy Head Skatepark in Brownsville, Brooklyn. We're proud to report it was the biggest women’s event in NYC in 2021 and it was part of a new initiative HHF has been building towards since 2020 to support the incredible female-identified and LGBTQ+ community in NYC and beyond. Recap video shot and produced by Janae Laster. Harold Hunter Weekend XIV went down from September 9-12, 2021 in New York City. This year's event was presented by DC Shoes with additional support from Element Skateboards, HUF, Red Bull, Zumiez, and The Skinny Bar & Lounge, among others. Each year, Harold Hunter Weekend is one of NYC’s largest and most highly anticipated skateboarding events that celebrates the enduring spirit and legacy of Harold Hunter. This year was no exception as all four days of events were packed with friends, family, and fans of both Harold and skate culture. As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit grassroots organization, the Harold Hunter Foundation relies on financial backing from the community to provide a network of support, opportunity, and advocacy for NYC youth so they can reach their full potential as skateboarders and young adults. HHF believes skateboarding has the power to transform lives. Element Skateboards kicked off Harold Hunter Weekend XIV on Thursday afternoon at Brooklyn's Substance Skatepark with a jam session and panel discussion featuring skate icon Donny Barley, Element team riders, and photographer Charlie Samuels where they discussed the ins and outs of working in the skateboarding industry. It was a heated competition with Marc Razo taking home the victory and donating his winnings to the Harold Hunter Foundation. Thanks, Razo! On Friday morning, the Pablo Ramirez Foundation, Brooklyn Skate Garden, Bronx Girls Skate, and HHF joined forces to give the LES Skatepark a thorough cleaning, removing dozens of bags of trash in the process. Huge thanks to all the volunteers who showed up early, got their hands dirty, and made a positive impact on the local community. Charlie discussed his photography career, shared funny anecdotes about Harold, and signed the 5 decks featured in the auction with all proceeds donated to HHF. It was a very special night! Saturday kicked off with The Boardr Open presented by DC Shoes at the LES Skatepark featuring the HHF Wildcard Contest. It was a super high level of skating and, when it was all said and done, Shiloh Catori took home the win on the women's side and Nico Ramos won the men's division. The HHF Wildcard victory went to Juri Iikura for women and Jiro Platt for men. All winners received $500 to put toward travel expenses to compete in November’s Miami Open.
