 Men's Mental Health PROGRAM

The Men's Mental Health Program at the Harold Hunter Foundation is a dedicated initiative aimed at addressing the unique mental health challenges faced by male skateboarders in New York City.

Our goal is to provide support, resources, and education to empower men to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives on and off their boards.

OBJECTIVES

  • Mental Well-Being: The program's primary goal is to promote and prioritize the mental well-being of male skateboarders, providing tools and strategies for managing stress, anxiety, and other mental health issues.
  • Breaking Down Toxic Masculinity: We aim to challenge and break down the culture of toxic masculinity and aggression within the skateboarding community. This includes fostering open conversations and reducing the stigma around men's mental health.
  • Creating Inclusive Environments: The program seeks to create more inclusive environments within skateboarding, where male skateboarders can express their emotions, seek support, and thrive without fear of judgment.
  • Support and Education: By providing mental health workshops, support sessions, and resources, the program equips male skateboarders with knowledge and skills to improve their mental well-being.
  • Advocacy: The Men's Mental Health Program advocates for mental health awareness and the need for accessible resources within the skateboarding community.

KEY COMPONENTS

  • Mental Health Workshops: Regular workshops focused on addressing mental health issues specific to male skateboarders, such as stress management, emotional well-being, and building resilience.
  • Support Sessions: Safe spaces for open discussions and peer support, where participants can share their experiences and challenges.
  • Community Engagement: Building strong relationships within the skateboarding community, mental health organizations, and local stakeholders to create a supportive and stigma-reducing environment.
  • Education and Resources: Providing educational materials, resources, and mentorship opportunities to help male skateboarders cope with mental health challenges and personal growth.
  • Flexible Programming: Recognizing that programming may take place during evenings and weekends to accommodate the schedules of skateboarders.
